Going Back to School

February 23, 2011

If someone told me I would be going back to school a year ago, I would have told them there was no way.  That is exactly what I did in January.  If you have had a chance to read our newsletter you are already familiar with my plait (if you want to receive our newsletter, please let us know).  We arrived in Sendai at the end of the regular semester.  The only class available for me was a review for last semester.  Yu must have felt sorry for me because she assured me that I don’t have to take the class if I didn’t want to.  Wow.  If only I had that option growing up.  Not really…  Of course, I jumped head first into class.  I admit it has been a bit hard to understand what is being said.  There is no English used.  Many of the students are from China and they do not speak any form of English.  And the homework is in Japanese too.  Imagine that?  However, Yu has been a huge help.  God has blessed me with a wonderful wife (and tutor when needed).

With the class winding down, I can say that it has been good to be around others wrestling with another language.  My prayers have gone out for them.  It has been fun to get to know them.  They are all from different religious backgrounds.  God gave me a chance to tell them why I came to Japan.  Many will move on to other parts of Japan.  Some to other parts of the world as they either go home or just move on to someplace else.  I gave my e-mail address to everyone and I have already heard from some of them.  I pray that the seeds that I was able to plant will grow and God will continue to use me for His kingdom.

Luke Kai is here!

February 17, 2011

Wow, we have been away from the blog world for so long… We are sorry that it took us so long to write a new post.  It has been the best month of our lives.  Our son, Luke Kai, was born on January 6th.  God provided wonderful doctors and nurses who made everything go so smoothly.  They took good care of mommy and Luke!  While we were in the hospital, we were able to share what we do in Japan and our faith in the Lord.  We praise God for this opportunity.

Luke is such a blessing from God.  We prayed and waited for this baby for a long time.  God’s timing is perfect.  We thank all our friends and families who prayed with us.  THANK YOU!

Luke makes us smile all the time.  He reminds us of God’s faithfulness every day. We are thankful that God has chosen us to be his parents and we pray that we will raise him for His glory.
